On a day to day basis you will initially work as a product technician within the production team. As your training progresses, you will be expected to undertake research and development activities as part of the in-house R&D team whilst learning the principles of Electronics Design and Software Development.
Product Technician/R&D Trainee:
·Assembly & test of electronic equipment
·Fault finding and repair of electronic equipment
·Installation design work
·On-site installation and test of equipment
·Support R&D in the assembly and test of new products
·Product Design: CAD work primarily with sheet metal and plastics
·Electronic Design: Circuit & PCB design of electronic products
·Embedded Software Development: Programming of electronic products to perform real-world tasks.
·Enterprise Software Development: Programming high-end web based software using the latest technologies.
·Data Scientist: Using artificial intelligence algorithms to gain meaningful insights from raw data sets.
Please Note: As part of your employment you will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing as per railway industry regulations.
The role is mostly office based, however occasional onsite (railway trackside) work is expected with possible overnight stays. All candidates must be drug & alcohol tested due to the safety-critical nature of the work involved. A no-smoking policy is in-place during working hours.
MPEC are to fund all study fees throughout the program. It is extremely likely that once all training is complete you will gain full time employment at MPEC as either a Product Technician, or R&D Engineer, dependant upon your talent and inclination assuming satisfactory performance throughout the scheme.
MPEC specialises in remote condition monitoring technology, providing industrial data acquisition systems designed primarily for the rail industry. This entails:
·The design, manufacture, supply and installation of track-side data-collection systems.
·The development of deployment of advanced Enterprise (cloud-based) supervisory software to deliver business intelligence from raw trackside data.
We are a small friendly firm and are based on Pride Park in Derby. As part of a small team, you will get the opportunity to see projects go from inception through to delivery, and have a hand in each and every step. You will get to see how the entire business works and gain exposure at all levels of the company, something you simply cannot get at a large organisation.
3 good A-Levels Inc. Science & Maths OR BTEC level 3/4 in Electronic Engineering or similar.
Qualification you will undertake:
Foundation Degree leading to full degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering
