During National Apprenticeships Week, which runs from 5th - 9th March, employers and apprentices from across England come together to celebrate the success of apprenticeships whilst encouraging even more people to choose apprenticeships as a pathway to a great career.
Our Traffic and Data Services Division, On-trac and Mpec Technology (Companies within the Tracsis Group) have all taken on apprentices - a move that has proven to be a resounding success. The Group hopes it can build on this success by taking on more apprentices in the future, giving young people the opportunity to improve their skills and prospects as well as becoming a valued part of our growing business.
The On-trac apprentices have been working alongside the testing team, getting to grips with the development side of the testing world. Working closely with our head of testing, the apprentices have also been working on On-trac's RailHub suite, using java-based testing software. This will help them integrate more with our wider development team, by developing tests in Java.
Our Traffic and Data Services Division has placed two Operations Managers from our Wetherby and London offices onto courses leading to Operations Manager Apprenticeship Standard Level 5. Their course covers best practice competencies for senior managers, so they can develop effective management and leadership practices at a senior level. Working closely with the Traffic and Data Services team and our clients, our apprentices will gain a greater understanding of operations management, managing resources and change and improving decision making and problem solving skills.
“Mpec Technology, has recruited four apprentices in the last six years and we are delighted that all have been a resounding success and assets to the business. As a former Apprentice from a previous generation I was eager to take advantage of the renaissance in these schemes and offer an alternative route to the purely academic ones. This has allowed us to meet the needs of our business as well as expanding the breadth of our resource. Our Apprentices have flourished and are now studying at degree level and hopefully beyond in the future. All have become well rounded individuals and important members of the company. We plan to recruit further apprentices in the future and would recommend the scheme to other employers as a rewarding venture which is beneficial to business.”
