Despite the lack of fans this weekend the Formula 1 British Grand Prix was a roaring success both on and off the track.
Lewis Hamilton took victory for the British, despite having only 3 tyres towards the home straight – a nail biting finish with less than 6 seconds between Hamilton and Verstappen.
With concerns that many fans would descend on the day, SEP manned numerous road closures in the vicinity of the circuit to move vehicles on swiftly to avoid potential gatherings occurring. Consideration was also given to local residents to enable them to go about their normal business, with one resident taking the time to feedback:
“I have just driven past the circuit as I had to go from Whittlebury to Tingewick to visit elderly in-laws who are isolating.
I stopped on the A43 stop before the bridge from Silverstone and the guy there said “No Problem just speak to Steve on the roundabout". Both of them could not have been more helpful, indeed at every stop sign I was welcomed with a smile and really great people. There was no attitude and they were keeping excellent control just reminding me not to stop but with a pleasant persona. I then had to come back 30 minutes later and they were just as polite and courteous. WELL DONE!
I have to say I think the circuit has done an excellent job with minimum disruption to residents - Please pass on my thanks to all the men and women manning the road closures in on the hottest day of the year.”
As well as the exclusion zone surrounding the track, strict measures were put in place for the protection of all staff and race personnel internally to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission.
It has been a fantastic opportunity for SEP to be onsite and gain experience in dealing with what may be the ‘new normal’.
