Smart Monitoring of Renfrew Bridge
Following the opening of the new Renfrew Bridge, Renfrewshire Council required accurate and timely data to understand how the bridge was being used by different transport modes—vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The Challenge
The Council needed a monitoring solution that could be deployed rapidly, provide continuous and reliable data across multiple user groups, and deliver actionable insights over an extended period of time.

Our Solution
Tracsis was approached to deliver a comprehensive monitoring programme. Within just one week of the initial request, we deployed our Smart Temporary Survey to capture and categorise bridge users across vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The system was initially scheduled for an 8-week deployment, but due to its effectiveness, Renfrewshire Council extended the project for an additional 10 weeks.
Results
✅ High Data Integrity
Less than 1% data loss over the lifetime of the project.
✅ Detailed Usage Insights
Provided the Council with a breakdown of user modes (vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists).
✅ Operational Value
Data enabled identification of peak usage times and assessment of the impact of local road closures on bridge traffic.
✅ Flexible & Responsive
Rapid deployment within a week ensured the Council could begin gathering insights immediately.
Conclusion
The monitoring programme has equipped Renfrewshire Council with reliable, high-quality evidence to support decision-making, manage transport flows, and optimise infrastructure planning around the Renfrew Bridge.
