The Challenge
The Council needed a monitoring solution that could be deployed rapidly, provide continuous and reliable data across multiple user groups, and deliver actionable insights over an extended period of time.
Following the opening of the new Renfrew Bridge, Renfrewshire Council required accurate and timely data to understand how the bridge was being used by different transport modes—vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The Council needed a monitoring solution that could be deployed rapidly, provide continuous and reliable data across multiple user groups, and deliver actionable insights over an extended period of time.
Tracsis was approached to deliver a comprehensive monitoring programme. Within just one week of the initial request, we deployed our Smart Temporary Survey to capture and categorise bridge users across vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The system was initially scheduled for an 8-week deployment, but due to its effectiveness, Renfrewshire Council extended the project for an additional 10 weeks.
Less than 1% data loss over the lifetime of the project.
Provided the Council with a breakdown of user modes (vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists).
Data enabled identification of peak usage times and assessment of the impact of local road closures on bridge traffic.
Rapid deployment within a week ensured the Council could begin gathering insights immediately.
The monitoring programme has equipped Renfrewshire Council with reliable, high-quality evidence to support decision-making, manage transport flows, and optimise infrastructure planning around the Renfrew Bridge.
Tracsis provided an excellent service from my initial enquiry to the ongoing monitoring, Graham Hambley was always on hand and provided myself and colleagues a very detailed understanding of the online dashboard tool. The easily understood evidence-based data has been invaluable in understanding how the new infrastructure is being used by all users and informing internal related traffic decisions. I would recommend this facility for a Smart Temporary Survey solution.
